Knights of the Nine is centered around a faction of the same name whose primary goal is to search and locate "Crusaders' Relics" which can be worn by the player, and according to Jeff Gardiner are "some of the best gear in the game." These relics must be used to defeat the evil Ayleid king Umaril who wishes to seek revenge on the Nine Divines. Membership in this faction is not automatic; first one must go on a pilgrimage across Cyrodiil to visit the shrines dedicated to the Nine Divines. Also when someone is a member of this faction, they must stay on the path of good at all times. The player cannot commit any crimes or do anything inherently evil or they must re-do the entire pilgrimage (in other words, if your infamy is above 1, you have to repeat the pilgrimage).
